Former Fiserv CEO Bisignano Takes Helm as Social Security Commissioner

Well, isn’t this just wonderful news? Frank Bisignano, financial services industry “leader,” was sworn in today as the 18th Commissioner of Social Security. Because clearly what the agency responsible for millions of Americans’ financial lifelines through Social Security benefits needed was another corporate executive at the wheel.

Bisignano brings his oh-so-valuable financial expertise from his previous role as Chairman and CEO of Fiserv. Yes, that’s right, a payments and financial technology company executive will now oversee the Social Security programs that your grandmother depends on for groceries. What could possibly go wrong?

President Trump has been clear about Social Security. We will protect it,” declared Commissioner Bisignano upon taking office. Oh sure, just like how a fox “protects” a henhouse. He added they’ll make the Social Security Administration a “premier organization.” Because apparently, distributing survival benefits to seniors and disabled Americans wasn’t important enough already.

The Scope and Impact of Social Security Programs

As Commissioner, Bisignano will now control all Social Security Administration programs nationwide. Last year alone, the Social Security Administration distributed over $1.5 trillion in benefits to more than 72 million beneficiaries, including:

  • Retirees depending on monthly retirement benefits
  • Disabled workers requiring disability support
  • Survivors who rely on these payments after losing a family member

That’s quite a piggy bank for a former financial industry executive to oversee, isn’t it?

Leadership Changes and Benefit Protection

But hey, I’m sure someone who made his career in the corporate world will prioritize the needs of Social Security beneficiaries, including retirees, disabled workers, and survivors over efficiency metrics and bottom lines. After all, when has a corporate executive ever disappointed the American public when it comes to protecting Social Security?
