Social Security Fraud Exposed: Honduran Immigrants Arrested in Ashland County
A routine traffic incident near Pleasant Hill Lake unveiled a complex legal situation involving potential Social Security fraud when Ashland County sheriff’s deputies arrested two individuals allegedly in the United States illegally.
Edwin Lazzsano was taken into custody on misdemeanor charges after deputies reported he resisted arrest and obstructed official business during a March 4 incident. According to Sheriff Kurt Schneider, Lazzsano was uncooperative and struggled with deputies while being handcuffed.
“He was here illegally,” Sheriff Schneider stated. “In fact, he admitted to that.”
Social Security Identity Theft Uncovered
A few days after the initial incident, a woman named Karla Hernandez arrived at the sheriff’s department attempting to retrieve the towed vehicle. During this interaction, deputies discovered a serious Social Security fraud case.
Key details of the Social Security fraud investigation include:
- Hernandez was using a fraudulent identification document
- The identification card contained a deceased United States citizen’s Social Security number
- When questioned, Hernandez claimed she obtained the ID from an unknown man at a local grocery store
Immigration Enforcement and Social Security Violations
Both Lazzsano and Hernandez, originally from Honduras, were subsequently taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The agents transported the pair to an undisclosed holding facility, marking the next step in their legal proceedings.
Sheriff Schneider noted that investigations into the details of their entry and fraudulent identification documents are ongoing, highlighting the serious implications of Social Security number misuse and immigration violations.
