Millions of Americans will receive Social Security this week. Around 72 million Americans, including adults and children with disabilities, retirees, and those with little to no income, receive monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Usually, SSI payments are made on the first day of every month, but this could change if the payment date falls on a federal holiday or a weekend.
SSI Payments For February: Date, Eligibility, Date, and COLA
Date:
Supplement Security Income for the month of February will go out on January 31 as February 1 and 2 fall on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. A similar proponent took place for January as the month’s SSI payments were paid on December 31, 2024, due to January 1 being a federal holiday. Social Security Administration advises recipients to wait for three days before contacting the agency over non-payment.
Eligibility:
Only Americans with a disability, retirees (over the age of 65), and those with limited to no income and financial resources. A noncitizen in one of certain alien classifications by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is also eligible for SSI.
Amount and COLA:
The maximum monthly SSI payment for this year has been increased to $967 for an individual and $1,450 for a couple after the Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) of 2.5%. This is an increase compared to $943 for an individual and $1,415 for a couple, respectively, in 2024. In 2024, the COLA raised SSI benefits by 3.2%, whereas 2023 saw a significant 8.7% increase due to high inflation.
The SSI payment for March will be made a day earlier on February 28, as March 1 and 2 fall on the weekend.
